And the Am Fah seem to have something that prolongs the transformation process and probably even halts it.

The Am Fah potions are a fake(Quests tell u so), there is no cure for the Plague except destroying the source.

People affected by the Plague are muted beyond any form of healing. But since Shiro was killed at the end of Factions, the spread of the Plague will come completely to a halt.
Its only a matter of killing off the remaining Plague monsters.
As the Plague comes from being in contact with Shiro, and is not passed between mobs it seems.
